OpenAI is going to be releasing GPT-5 soon. The company has been teasing it for a while. GPT-5-Alpha has already been seen in the wild. Some have been using it in Cursor to test its coding capabilities or so it seems. It will combine OpenAI’s text and reasoning models. It will be able to excel at solving multi-step tasks.
I was able to reproduce gpt-5-alpha in Cursor by directly adding it as a custom model.
However, I discovered that any model name containing the string “gpt-5” displays the thinking model icon (brain icon) and allows Max Mode to be enabled, whereas other custom models I added… pic.twitter.com/ldytxuvx66

GPT-5 is likely to be released in multiple tiers, including a mini and nano model. Just like GPT-40, GPT-5 is expected to have support for voice, images and files. If all goes according to the plan, this model should launch later today.
