OpenAI has been adding a whole bunch of features to ChatGPT in the past few months, including Codex and new GPT models. For the longest time, the company has been offering a lot of its features to Plus users, with limits. According to Sam Altman, that could be changing for new features.
Over the next few weeks, we are launching some new compute-intensive offerings. Because of the associated costs, some features will initially only be available to Pro subscribers, and some new products will have additional fees.

What could this mean? We could get a more improved video model (Sora 2) that comes with additional costs. Here are just a few other things that the company may be looking to charge for:
- deeper reasoning modes with longer “think harder” steps
- extra long context
- higher resolution image models
- advanced fine tuning
- faster queues
- beefier code-execution sandboxes, web browsing with higher limits, complex automations hitting external APIs?
The good news is a lot of these features will be released to Plus users in the future, though some of them will require an extra fee. It remains to be seen what Sam is exactly talking about at this point.
